Childhood Memories - Lost Through Time
Although I was way to young to remember, my parents tell of me and my sister playing in the grandstand dirt at the old Midway Speedway in Loudon NH. I seem to slightly remember a trip to the Legion Bowl in Rumney and I know my dad went to Northeastern Speedway in Waterford, VT on occasion.
Some of the heroes of this time are just names to me,the likes of Bill George, Paul Martell, Whitey Hoyt, " Dirty " Ernie Gilbert, Harold Hanaford, Ronnie Marvin, Bob Baker and the list goes on and on.

Our neighbor at this time in the early 60s was Paul Martell. My Dad and Paul got to be good friends and this got my dad, who had attended racing at a young age at the Franklin Motordrome and the old Gilford Bowl, back to his interest in racing again.
In late 1963 and in 64 we started going to the new Speedway in Loudon to watch Paul race Red Thurber's #444. This car all bue ruled Midway in 64 winning a number of events and a runaway championship. My mom and dad to this day praise Paul as the best driver they ever saw.
